Moxibustion therapy is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves burning dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near or on specific points on the body. The heat from the burning mugwort is believed to stimulate circulation and promote healing.
During a moxibustion session our practitioners may use a variety of techniques to apply the heat, including indirect moxibustion, where the mugwort is burned on top of an acupuncture needle, or direct moxibustion, where a small cone of mugwort is placed directly on the skin.
Moxibustion is used to treat a variety of conditions including:
- Pain
- Digestive disorders
- Menstrual problems
- Respiratory conditions
- Turning of breech babies
Moxibustion therapy is often used in combination with acupuncture to enhance the therapeutic effects of the treatment.
