Acupuncture and Herpes Zoster

Acupuncture may reduce pain intensity, relieve anxiety and improve quality of life in patients with Postherpetic Neuralgia. Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) refers to pain which remains after the healing of rashes from herpes zoster (a lasting pain in the areas of your skin where you had shingles). A study published in the Journal of Pain Research (Dove Medical Press) sought to identify the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of PHN. The study concluded that acupuncture may reduce pain intensity, relieve anxiety and improve quality of life in patients with PHN.
